Ukraine grain harvest approaching 100 million tonnes, but part remains in shade – president's envoy for land issues

Losses from the shadow sale of agricultural products and tax evasion reach tens of billions of hryvnias.

Grain harvest in Ukraine is approaching 100 million tonnes, while part of it remains in the shade, according to Roman Leshchenko, the Ukrainian President's envoy for land affairs.

"Ukraine today is more than 70 million tonnes of grains. We are already approaching the famous figure of 100 [million tonnes], but it is hidden in the shadow market. If we now acknowledge at the state level that the level of shadow economy is more than 40%, this also applies to agriculture," the official said.

According to Leshchenko, satellite data will expose "fraudsters", as well as legalize shadow funds and fill the budget.

Leshchenko says underestimated yield indicators are now being filed.

"We are talking about tens of billions of hryvnias. We consider not only losses from the shadow use of land and non-payment of taxes on land and the income of individuals, but also losses from the shadow sale of agricultural products that are not registered anywhere. A huge array of shadow grain is exported through fictitious deals," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture presented a map of satellite classification of crops in Ukraine.

According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economy, grain harvest in Ukraine in 2019 will stand at 74 million tonnes, which is 4 million tonnes more than last year.
