Ukrainian PM Honcharuk sees talks with IMF mission as constructive

The IMF mission noted progress achieved in Ukraine in the past few months.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk says talks with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, which worked in Ukraine from November 14 to November 22, were constructive.

"We have had constructive talks. The mission noted the significant progress made over the past few months," the Ukrainian government's portal quoted Honcharuk as saying.

The IMF mission also said a balanced economic policy should continue in Ukraine.

As the report on the government portal's says, Finance Minister Oksana Markarova and IMF head Ron van Rooden mentioned the progress achieved in discussions on policies and reforms that could be the basis of a new IMF program, including support for the monetary, fiscal and financial sectors, as well as reforms to improve the business environment, enhance the rule of law and boost economic growth.

"We continue work on a new program in close cooperation," Honcharuk said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the IMF mission began work in Kyiv on November 14. The members of the mission planned to continue discussions with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities regarding a new three-year Extended Fund Facility.

The National Bank of Ukraine estimated the potential volume of the new program at between US$5 billion and US$10 billion and predicted the disbursement of the first US$2 billion by the end of this year.
