Ukraine continues talks with IMF, hopes for their successful completion – NBU

Consultations are underway in Washington following negotiations in Kyiv.

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Yakiv Smolii has said Ukraine continues negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding a new program.

"The negotiations are underway, and we hope for their successful completion," he said at a briefing.

According to Smolii, after the completion of the IMF mission in Kyiv last week, consultations are underway in Washington, the results of which are expected in the near future.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the IMF mission worked in Kyiv on November 14-22. Members of the mission continued discussions with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities regarding a new three-year Extended Fund Facility.

"The IMF staff team had constructive and productive discussions with the Ukrainian authorities and commended them on the considerable progress made during the last few months in advancing reforms and continuing with sound economic policies," it said in a statement.

"Discussions will continue in the coming weeks," the IMF said.

The National Bank of Ukraine estimated the potential volume of the new program at between US$5 billion and US$10 billion and predicted the disbursement of the first US$2 billion by the end of this year.
