"Interesting solution" at hand: Zelensky on cutting heating tariffs in half

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky says the government has found a solution to allow reducing heating tariffs by almost half.

The president in a video address to the nation published on Facebook Monday promised price cuts as early as next winter, Ukrainian Pravda reports.

"The government has adopted the Guaranteed Gas Price program. The price has decreased by another 7%. We are working to ensure that the drop is even lower. Then on Bankova Street, we had a meeting with the government regarding tariffs. We are working to have a reduction this winter, to have lower heating bills," the president said.

Also, he noted that an interesting solution had been found that would allow reducing heating tariffs by almost a half as early as next winter. "It will be a truly separate program. Now this information is being prepared. Stages are being prepared, what will be done, what funds will be allocated," the president said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 30, the President's Office released a video with President Zelensky discussing with PM Oleksiy Honcharuk, Office Chief Andriy Bohdan, and several other officials the issue of a possible reduction in the heating tariff this December.

Zelensky insisted that people pay less for heating as early as this month.

At the meeting, it was noted that Naftogaz had reduced the gas price against last year, so for those consumers who heat their homes with natural gas, the bills would be lower.

At the same time, consumers who have central heating will see no reduction in tariff,because there are two laws stipulating that it is impossible to change heating tariffs until May 2020.
