The amendments to the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement stipulate an increase in quotas for duty-free exports of Ukrainian poultry meat to the EU to 70,000 tonnes.

Ukraine's Parliament on Thursday ratified the relevant agreement.

According to the deal, Ukraine will receive additional quotas for annual duty-free exports of 50,000 tonnes of products, plus the previously established quotas will be retained, which until 2020 will increase to 20,000 tonnes.

Thus, in 2021, the quota volume will reach 70,000 tonnes.

Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Sergey Nikolaychuk during his speech from Parliament rostrum said the increase in quotas will create more favorable conditions for Ukrainian agricultural exporters.

"Today, export of poultry meat is one of the important directions of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU, in fact it is the first animal product that entered European markets and showed its readiness to compete with products made in other countries. At the end of 2018, Ukraine exported to the EU more than 51,000 tonnes of poultry meat, of which only 17,600 tonnes was brought there by quotas, while producers were forced to pay for the rest of the batch a rather high duty," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the European Parliament supported the extending of quotas for Ukrainian poultry meat exporters.
