Ukraine's Energy and Environmental Protection Ministry and the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure of Moldova have signed the Memorandum of Understanding related to the security of gas supplies.

The document was signed at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Energy Community, which was held on December 13 in Chisinau (the Republic of Moldova).

"The memorandum confirmed the intention of the two ministries to dialogue and mutual assistance between the states in gas supplies. It also aims to eliminate and prevent serious irregularities in power networks, as well as to effectively prevent and mitigate interruptions in supplies of natural gas, in particular, to protected consumers of both states located in the border zone," the Ukrainian agency's press service quoted Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Kostiantyn Chyzhyk as saying on December 13.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in June, the state-owned operator of Ukraine's gas transmission system (GTS), Ukrtransgaz, proposed that Moldova use the Ukrainian GTS for pumping European gas. The company also offered to inject the required gas reserves into Ukraine's underground storage facilities (USFs) to guarantee gas supplies to Moldovan consumers if difficulties emerge with a new contract between Chisinau-based Moldovagaz and Russia's Gazprom after 2020.
