Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki says Poland is willing to receive more information about Ukraine's intention to upgrade the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union with regard to the functioning of a deep and comprehensive free trade area.

"We were told at various events that the Ukrainian side is committed to review the deep and comprehensive free trade area. We would like to know more about this. This is a potentially very sensitive issue, as we would like to increase trade with Ukraine, and not vice versa," he told UNIAN on December 13.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 6, Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said that upgrading the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement is an important task for the government.

"This should happen in 2021. We and our colleagues are now carefully studying all the clauses of the agreement to make it as effective, convenient, and successful for both sides as possible," he said.

UNIAN memo. The Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine fully entered into force on September 1, 2017.

The Association Agreement, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), is the main tool for bringing Ukraine and the EU closer together: it promotes deeper political ties and stronger economic links, as well as respect for common European values. The DCFTA provides a framework for modernizing Ukraine's trade relations and economic development by opening up markets and harmonizing laws, standards and regulations with EU and international norms.
