"In Ukraine, there is the ancient word 'nabil' that is rarely used. Therefore, manufacturers propose that feta is sold as Nabil Rozsilny," she told AgroFM, as reported by AgroPortal on December 12.

The expert says the need to define a new name for the product arose due to the implementation of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.

Feta is protected in the European Union with the geographical indication of origin. Therefore, Ukrainian companies will have no right to call their product "feta" from 2023.

The rebranding requires a powerful consumer awareness campaign, the expert added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Ukrainian Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Ministry had registered Ukraine's first food product with a geographical indication of origin, that is "Hutsul Sheep Bryndzya" (brinsen cheese).
