The state-owned operator of Ukraine's integrated power grids, Ukrenergo, says total electricity imports into Ukraine in November reached 661 GWh, which had exceeded total electricity exports by 5%, for the first time since the launch of Ukraine's new electricity market in July.

In particular, 370.6 GWh was imported into the Burshtynska energy "island" (the area of Burshtynska thermal power plant), while 290.4 GWh was supplied to the trade zone of Ukraine's Integrated Power System (IPS), the company's press service said on December 17.

At the same time, electricity imports from Hungary almost doubled, while those from Slovakia and Russia grew by 8% and 4%, respectively.

According to Ukrenergo, in order to ensure balance and operational security of the power grid in November, the planned imports of electricity into Ukraine were restricted: those from Belarus were limited by 46% (from 294.7 GWh to 157.8 GWh); from Russia by 34% (from 201.5 GWh to 132.6 GWh); and into the Burshtynska TPP energy "island" by 1% (from 374.9 GWh to 370.6 GWh).

Electricity imports in November increased by 10% from October 2019 and by 2.4 times from July 2019, to 661 GWh, the report said.

At the same time, electricity exports from Ukraine over the period under review totaled 629 GWh. In particular, 483.7 GWh was exported from the Burshtynska TPP energy "island" into European countries, while 145.2 GWh was supplied from Ukraine's IPS to Poland and Moldova.

At the same time, electricity exports into Romania grew by more than 30%, the press service added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, on December 4 passed bill No. 2233 to amend the Law of Ukraine on the Electricity Market, which envisages, in particular, a ban on electricity imports from Russia under bilateral agreements. The president has not yet enacted the bill into law.
