Ukrainian President's Office says final agreement reached in gas talks with Russia, EU

Details will be announced on Saturday, December 21.

Representatives of the European Commission, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation on Friday, December 20, reached a final agreement on the principled positions on the transit of Russian gas to European consumers via the territory of Ukraine after the existing contract expires on December 31, 2019, as well as settlement of mutual claims in courts.

That's according to a statement by the Office of the President of Ukraine, posted on Facebook.

"Details will be announced on Saturday, December 21, at a briefing by Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel and Executive Director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko, to be held at the President's Office.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine and Russia during a round of trilateral talks, held in Berlin on December 19, with the mediation of the European Commission, reached an "agreement in principle" on gas transit.

"It was a very long day and very intensive negotiations," EU's Maros Sefcovic said in Berlin at a joint briefing with energy ministers of Ukraine and Russia, Oleksiy Orzhel and Alexander Novak, following the talks.
