The agency says the traffic handling capacity exceeds the designed one by 1.5-2 times.
Ukraine's State Border Service has explained long lines of passenger cars and buses at checkpoints at the Ukrainian-Polish border by the fact that Ukrainians who work, study or travel abroad are now returning home before the holiday season.
"There is a predicted increase in traffic at border crossings, coupled with jams, at the Ukrainian-Polish section before winter holidays," the Western Regional Division of the Ukrainian State Border Service said on Facebook on December 22.

"We would like to inform citizens heading for Ukraine about significant traffic congestion at the border with Poland," it said.
In particular, there are long lines of passenger cars and buses awaiting border control in front of the Krakovets-Korczowa and Shehyni-Medyka checkpoints.
The border authority says that the main cause behind the traffic congestion is that Ukrainians who work or study abroad, or have left Ukraine on private business now want to return home before the holiday season.
"The border guards are taking all measures to ensure smooth traffic. Currently, the checkpoints on the Ukrainian side are working with the traffic handling capacity exceeding the designed one by 1.5-2 times. In particular, they handled 2,784 vehicles and 23,387 people at the Shehyni checkpoint in the past 24 hours, while 3,366 vehicles and 16,165 passengers passed through the Krakovets checkpoint," the agency said.
