Satellite imagery shows 4.3 mln ha of farmland unaccounted for

After an interactive satellite map was launched, the study revealed that the area of ​​agricultural plots is larger than indicated in the cadastre — in total, there is about 4.3 million hectares of unaccounted farmland.

The data were analyzed by an international company that specializes in satellite imagery studies, EOS Data Analytics. In particular, satellite data allowed determining the actual size of farmland in Ukraine.

For example, the area sown with ​​rapeseed in Kherson region, according to satellites, is 117,800 hectares. This is a third more than the data filed in the inventory. In Dnipropetrovsk region, 136,400 hectares of fields are seen on unregistered plots.

The map uses the results of a study conducted by EOS Data Analytics in conjunction with the Space Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences and the Civil Aviation Administration of Ukraine. Currently, the results of the study are used by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 13, the Verkhovna Rada passed at first reading Bill 2178-10, which repeals the ban on farmland sales.
