"The government is fighting illegal markets, in particular, the shadow circulation of fuel. I've instructed the State Fiscal Service, law enforcers and control authorities to solve this problem before January 9, 2020," he wrote on Telegram on December 26.

According to the official, only licensed filling stations will be operating in the country.

Honcharuk added that 46 illegal gas stations had already been dismantled, while 18 criminal proceedings had been launched. In addition, 31 business entities submitted documents to obtain licenses.

The prime minister also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had called on the major filling station chains to cut petrol prices. Earlier, the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) ordered them to lower the prices as well.

"This refers to lowering real prices, rather than 'promotional' offers in chain loyalty programs," the prime minister added.

Noteworthy, the major chains slightly reduced the fuel prices the day after their representatives met with the head of state.
