"This compromise is the result of the coordinated work of a large team – from the President and Government of Ukraine to ordinary Naftogaz employees," he wrote on Facebook.

"I am grateful to all international partners who supported Ukraine and defended its interests during difficult negotiations. In particular, to the United States for effective and very timely support for the genuine energy security of Europe," he said.

According to Kobolyev, these were the first negotiations with Gazprom and the Russian Federation, in which the Ukrainian side really had a very strong position.

"Record gas reserves, unbundling has been completed, the GTS in reverse has been prepared and tested for long-term operation, timely sanctions against Nord Stream 2, the new Stockholm arbitration – these were the trump cards in our deck that we have been stubbornly collecting in recent years. Thanks to effective preparatory work, today we managed to avoid another gas crisis," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine and Russia on Monday, December 30, signed a five-year contract for gas transit to Europe, which will bring Ukraine at least $7 billion.
