Ukraine's Finance Ministry says the payment of dividends to the national budget by National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine at the end of 2019 was calculated and carried out based on the results of the company's operation for 11 months, not taking into account the receipt of US$2.9 billion in compensation from Russia's Gazprom under the Stockholm arbitration award.

"At the same time, the payment in December of part of Naftogaz's dividends calculated based on the 11-month net profit poses no risks for 2020. Yet, it does not include taxes and additional dividends expected from the receipt of US$2.9 billion from Gazprom as a result of the tremendous work by Naftogaz team, the President's Office, and the government in upholding the rights of Ukraine," the ministry said on January 2, commenting on the closure of the 2019 fiscal year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 27, 2019, Naftogaz transferred UAH 13 billion (US$549 million) to the national budget immediately after the Cabinet had adopted a decision on early payment of dividends for 2019.

"Immediately after the decision was made, we transferred UAH 8.5 billion [US$359 million] in dividends to the state [budget] and UAH 4.5 billion [US$190 million] in other tax payments. In total, we provided about UAH 20 billion [US$844 million] in state budget revenue in December. We hope this will allow many Ukrainians to calmly and joyfully celebrate the holidays," Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev said.

On the same day, Naftogaz received from Russia's Gazprom US$2.9 billion in monetary compensation in line with the Stockholm arbitration award.
