Tajikistan has retained its status as the most remittance-dependent economy in the world, according to the report from the World Bank.
The volume of remittances sent to Tajikistan from abroad accounts for 42% of the country’s GDP, with 90% of remittances originating from Russia, the BBC’s Russian Service has reported.
In this regard, the economic slowdown in Russia and the devaluation of Russian currency continue to have a significant negative impact on the Tajik economy.
According to the World Bank data, over the first two months of 2015, remittances to Tajikistan decreased by almost 40% compared to the same period last year.
