Ukraine's hryvnia continues weakening

The forex rate for Thursday is set at UAH 23.8345 per U.S. dollar.

The hryvnia, Ukraine's national currency, continues weakening after the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has updated its official forex rates for Thursday, January 9.

In particular, U.S. dollars will be traded at UAH 23.8345 per dollar (UAH 23.6785 as of January 8) and euros at UAH 26.4909 per euro (UAH 26.3932 as of January 8), the NBU said on its website.

As was reported, the year 2019 saw the strengthening of the hryvnia, in particular, the NBU's forex rate revalued by 3.4% against the U.S. dollar in November and by 13.4% in January-November 2019, to UAH 23.97 per dollar.

The hryvnia was strengthening in December 2019 to its four-year maximum on December 26, 2019, fixed at UAH 23.26 per U.S. dollar (the official rate).

Yet, on December 27, 2019, the NBU for the first time over the month let the hryvnia weaken, and this trend continued in early 2020.
