NBU weakens official forex rate to UAH 23.83 to dollar for Jan 9

The official forex rate against the euro for Thursday is UAH 26.49 per euro.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Wednesday evening weakened the official hryvnia exchange rate by 15 kopiykas for Thursday, January 9, bringing the national currency to UAH 23.83 to the U.S. dollar.

In December 2019, the national currency had been updating or holding its record high since January 2016, that's until December 27, when the hryvnia official rate for the first time dropped to UAH 23.29 to the dollar against the latest four-year maximum set at UAH 23.26 on December 26, according to the NBU's website.

The official forex rate against the euro for Thursday, January 9, is fixed at UAH 26.49 per euro.

Trade on Ukraine's interbank forex market on Wednesday, January 8, closed at UAH 23.97/24.00 per U.S. dollar, while the hryvnia quotations to the euro were at UAH 26.66/26.69, dealers of commercial banks said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, since early December 2019, the hryvnia has strengthened against the U.S. dollar by 1.5% and by 14.5% since January 1, 2019.

Ukraine's national currency in 2018 strengthened against the U.S. dollar by 1.4%, up to UAH 27.69 as of January 1, 2019.

Hryvnia's historical low against the U.S. dollar was registered at UAH 30.01 in February 2015.
