CEO of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) LLC Serhiy Makogon says the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has exceeded 100 million cubic meters (mcm) per day, while in the first days of 2020 it was reduced to 35-45 mcm.

"We are gradually reaching our target transit volumes as daily [gas] transit exceeded 100 mcm as of January 8. Transit orders are being executed in full," the official wrote on Facebook on January 9.

Makogon on January 4 reported that despite the fact that the physical volumes of gas transit had temporarily decreased to 35-45 mcm per day, the GTS operator received payment in full from Gazprom at a rate of 178 mcm per day.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 30, Ukraine and Russia signed a new gas transit contract for a period of five years, obliging Russia's Gazprom to pump a minimum of 65 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas via Ukraine in the first year and 40 bcm in the next four years. The parties may extend the contract for another ten years.
