"The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine may consider the issue of exempting railway transport from land tax. Relevant draft law No. 2566-1 to amend the Tax Code of Ukraine as part of the review of land taxation specifics has already been registered in parliament," the company's press service said on January 11.

The land tax for Ukrzaliznytsia was introduced on January 1, 2019. The company says it will have to additionally pay UAH 4.2 billion, or US$175.2 million, to the budget instead of investing the funds in rolling stock and upgrading trains.

As UNIAN reported, Ukrzaliznytsia earlier said that passenger transportation was unprofitable and its losses from such services totaled UAH 10 billion (US$417.2 million) annually.
