Official hryvnia weakens against U.S. dollar to UAH 24.03 as of Jan 15

The four-year maximum was fixed at UAH 23.26 per U.S. dollar on December 26.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Tuesday evening let the official hryvnia weaken by 10 kopiykas and set its forex rate as of Wednesday, January 15, at UAH 24.03 to the U.S. dollar.

The official forex rate against the euro for Wednesday is fixed at UAH 26.69 per euro, which is seven kopiykas down from the rate set for Tuesday.

Trade on Ukraine's interbank forex market on Tuesday, January 14, closed at UAH 23.97/24.00 per U.S. dollar, while the hryvnia quotations to the euro were at UAH 26.66/26.69, dealers of commercial banks said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's national currency in November 2019 strengthened by 3.4% against the U.S. dollar and by 13.4% in the 11 months of 2019, to UAH 23.97 per dollar. The hryvnia continued getting stronger in December until its four-year maximum set at UAH 23.26 per dollar on December 26.

However, the National Bank let the official hryvnia weaken on December 27, 2019, for the first time over the month, and this trend continued in early 2020.
