Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is drafting a bill on the Bureau of Financial Investigations.

Zelensky wants the Bureau to be subject to the President's Office rather than to the Finance Ministry, as provided for by the bill that passed its first reading in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, the publication said.

"The president will submit his own draft law on the Bureau of Financial Investigations so that the agency could be subordinate to him," a source said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy on January 14 recommended that the Verkhovna Rada reject draft law No. 1208-2 dated September 18, 2019, on the Bureau of Financial Investigations. Ukrainian parliamentarians Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk and Denys Monastyrskyi submitted the bill to the parliament.

The draft law passed its first reading in the Verkhovna Rada on October 2. The document was backed by 270 MPs.

The document provided for the establishment of the Bureau of Financial Investigations as a central executive authority whose activities are guided and coordinated by the Cabinet through the finance minister.
