The balance of payments of Ukraine in January-April 2015 was in deficit by $2.106 billion, which is 2.1 times less than the deficit of $4.509 billion in the same period last year, according to a preliminary report released by the National Bank of Ukraine on its Web site.
In April balance of payments deficit amounted to $168 million, down by almost 28% on a year-over-year basis.
The current account deficit in January-April decreased by six times amounting to $265 million compared to the same period last year (in April there was a surplus of $187 million), according to the report. The deficit of capital and financial operations account decreased by 1.6 times and amounted to $1.841 billion. (in April there was a deficit of $355 million).
According to the regulator, the net inflow of foreign direct investment (balance) in January-April amounted to $480 million (April - $20 million), while during the same period last year there was recorded outflow of $1.124 billion.
In January-April 2015, the negative balance on loans and bonds amounted to $4.267 billion (in April it was also negative, at $734 million).
The balance of payments of Ukraine in 2014 had a deficit of $13.307 billion against a surplus of $2.023 billion in 2013.
