Ukraine's hryvnia weakens against U.S. dollar to 24.25 on Jan 20

Ukraine's national currency in 2019 strengthened against the U.S. dollar by 14.5%, to UAH 23.69.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Friday evening weakened the official hryvnia exchange rate by 16 kopiykas, bringing the national currency to UAH 24.25 to the dollar.

The Central Bank set the following official exchange rates of the hryvnia against leading foreign currencies for January 20:

US$100 will be traded for UAH 2,425.27 (UAH 2,409.23 as of January 17);

EUR 100 will be traded for UAH 2,693.63 (UAH 2,690.03 as of January 17).

Trade on Ukraine's interbank forex market on Friday, January 17, closed at UAH 24.27/24.30 per U.S. dollar, while the hryvnia quotations to the euro were at UAH 26.94/26.97, dealers of commercial banks said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's national currency in November 2019 strengthened by 3.4% against the U.S. dollar and by 13.4% in the 11 months of 2019, to UAH 23.97 per dollar. The hryvnia continued getting stronger in December until its four-year maximum set at UAH 23.26 per dollar on December 26.

However, the National Bank let the official hryvnia weaken on December 27, 2019, for the first time over the month, and this trend continued in early 2020.
