The Ukrainian national railways company PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRСC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation.

The document was signed by Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov, Ukrzaliznytsia Board Member Remihiush Pashkevych, and CRCC Deputy CEO Wang Hongwei, the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry's press service said on January 20.

"We are pleased to welcome the start of cooperation between the largest state-owned railway companies in Ukraine and China. The fact that the Chinese corporation has decided to open a representative office in Ukraine and sign a memorandum on strategic cooperation indicates that Ukraine's economic situation is changing, the investment climate is improving, and the major foreign technological and industrial giants are interested in operations in the Ukrainian market," the press service quoted Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii as saying.

According to the minister, the signing of the memorandum is an important stage of cooperation for the development of the Ukraine-China railway services, attraction of Chinese partners for upgrading Ukrainian railways, and realization of Ukraine's transit potential in combination with the European Union-China railway services.

Kryklii says Ukraine also expects to restart and intensify its participation in China's Belt and Road Initiative, which will allow fulfilling the country's transit potential related to the continental freight traffic in full.

"We want to find such a form and formula for Ukraine's participation in this multilateral project so that the win-win model, that is, the parties' mutual win-win, could be implemented at most," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in 2018 signed memorandums of cooperation with manufacturers of railway transport, namely French-based Alstom and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) to purchase electric locomotives.
