National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine says the unfreezing of Gazprom's foreign assets in Europe is due to the end of recovering US$2.9 billion from Russia's gas giant under the Stockholm Arbitration's award.

"Freeze orders were imposed on Gazprom's assets in different jurisdictions to get it to pay its US$2.9 billion debt [before Naftogaz] under the Stockholm Arbitration's award. We received US$2.9 billion from Gazprom on December 27, 2019. The debt had been recovered," Naftogaz's press service wrote on Facebook on January 21.
