Ukraine's government approves Pension Fund budget for 2020 with US$7 bln deficit

The prime minister says the Pension Fund's budget is balanced.

The Cabinet of Ministers on Friday approved the budget of Ukraine's Pension Fund for the year 2020.

The deficit of the Pension Fund is UAH 172.576 billion, or US$7.04 billion, Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said on Telegram on January 24.

"The amount of disbursements for financing pension programs is UAH 172.576 billion. I draw attention to the fact that the Pension Fund budget for 2020 is balanced," he wrote.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the size of the living wage and minimum pension increased in Ukraine from December 1, 2019. In particular, the living wage for able-bodied people increased by UAH 95 (US$4), to UAH 2,102 (US$86), while the minimum pension increased by UAH 74 (US$3), to UAH 1,638 (US$67). The draft state budget for 2020 provides for the allocation of UAH 172.57 billion to cover the Pension Fund deficit.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Pension Fund budget for 2019 with subsidies to cover the deficit in the amount of UAH 167 billion (US$6.8 billion).
