Ukraine's State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service says Hong Kong has stepped up biosecurity measures for shell eggs imports from Ukraine, demanding authorized labs' conclusions that the produce is antibiotic-free.

"Starting from January 27, 2020, shell eggs exports from enterprises authorized by the Hong Kong competent authority are possible only if there is confirmation (experts' conclusions from authorized, accredited laboratories) that each batch of exported shell eggs contains no fluoroquinolones and salinomycin, and is safe to consume," the agency's press service said on January 27.
The Ukrainian regulator reminds market players that shell eggs exports to Hong Kong are possible only if the sanitary requirements are strictly observed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Belarus suspended shipments of Ukrainian poultry and eggs over a bird flu outbreak in Ukraine's Vinnytsa region, reported on January 20.
Earlier, the European Union had suspended imports of poultry meat from Ukraine over bird flu cases. At the same time, eggs and egg products are not subject to the said restrictions.
In 2019, egg production in Ukraine grew by 3.4%, to 16.6 billion eggs.
