CEO of National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev says he hopes a competitive gas market will be launched for Ukrainian households as of May 1, 2020.

"We are waiting for the opening of the gas market for households on May 1, 2020, as well as competition between independent suppliers. Then the issue of what is included in the price will become irrelevant: one will simply choose the most advantageous offer among several suppliers," he wrote on Facebook on January 28.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers on January 24 amended the resolution on public service obligations (PSOs) and limited the price of gas for households and municipal heating companies to that set at the Dutch Gas Hub.

On January 28, Naftogaz announced that in keeping with a new government resolution, the January wholesale gas price for households, heat producers and other protected consumers receiving gas under the terms of public service obligations will be UAH 4.65 per cubic meter or US$0.19 (VAT, retail margin, transmission and distribution costs are not included). The price is 25% down from that of January 2019.
