EU to provide Ukraine with EUR 26 mln aid for agricultural sector

The European Union will provide Ukraine with EUR 26 million to support the agricultural sector and small-scale farming.

The relevant agreement was signed in Brussels by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Dmytro Kuleba and Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, RFE/RL's Ukrainian service reported on January 28.

In particular, the funds will be used to "strengthen the target value chain in agriculture and ensure access of small-scale farmers to financing through the introduction of grant programs."

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 13, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, adopted a draft law to amend certain legislative acts of Ukraine on farmland turnover in the first reading. The document, which was submitted by the relevant committee, is designed to launch the farmland market in Ukraine from October 1, 2020.

On January 24, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft agreement with the European Union, which provides for the allocation of EUR 26 million in financial assistance for Ukraine's land reform.
