Zelensky finds use for money won in gas dispute with Russia's Gazprom

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday proposed that $2.9 billion which Naftogaz had won in a gas dispute with Gazprom be used to develop Ukrainian infrastructure and health care.

"We're planning to allocate additional funds for road construction – this is our infrastructure priority – and other infrastructure projects, the health care sector, and energy efficiency. One of the plans is to build more than 200 health care facilities throughout Ukraine," the president said, according to his press service.

Zelensky instructed the government to develop appropriate proposals and submit them shortly.

Recall that Naftogaz has already sold the National Bank $500 million of the $2.9 billion received from Gazprom by the Stockholm arbitration award in late December 2019.

Naftogaz management said they intended to allocate about $1 billion of the funds received from Gazprom for the development of gas extraction.
