Ukraine's infrastructure ministry invites U.S. companies to take part in concession projects

The concession mechanism will allow the government attracting major private investment to modernize and improve the efficiency of infrastructure facilities.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has invited U.S. companies to take part in concession projects across the country, which, through public-private partnerships, will allow introducing progressive and effective methods of managing major infrastructure facilities.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii met with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. to Ukraine Kristina Kvien and Counselor to the Chief Executive Officer of the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Caleb McCarry. 

The parties discussed the existing and future directions of the Ukrainian-American cooperation in the field of infrastructure, according to the ministry's press service.

"The concession mechanism will allow the government attracting major private investment to modernize and improve the efficiency of infrastructure facilities, such as sea and river ports, roads, airports, and other state-owned facilities, which will realize Ukraine's transit potential and provide a new quality of transport services. We invite companies from the United States to join concession projects in Ukraine," the ministry's press service quoted Kryklii as saying.

In turn, Kvien positively assessed the ongoing cooperation between Ukraine and the U.S., and expressed hope for the further development of mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.

It is also noted the first concession biddings for the ports of Olvia and Kherson have recently been completed, while new concession projects are being prepared for the seaports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, Mariupol, and Berdyansk. In addition, projects are being developed for Lviv - Striy and Lviv-Ternopil concession roads, as well as regional airports and railway stations.

Moreover, McCarry said the DFC was considering participation in infrastructure projects in Ukraine.
