Core inflation in Ukraine slows by 2.5 times in last month

Core inflation (most often calculated by taking the consumer price index) decreased to 1.9% in May 2015, from the 4.6% recorded in April, according to the data published on the Web site of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

In annual terms, as compared to May 2014, core inflation in May 2015 slowed to 46.5%, compared to the 47.1% recorded in the previous month.

At the beginning of the year, against December 2014, core inflation was at 27.7%, while in January-May it was 39.7% compared to the same period last year.

The State Statistics Committee noted that the data excluded the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as part of the area of the antiterrorist operation implementation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in May 2015 compared with the previous month slowed to 2.2% year-over-year, (versus May 2014), to 58.4%.

Since the beginning of the year - in January-May - the inflation rate amounted to 40.1%.

According to State Statistics Service methodology, core inflation excludes short-term irregular price changes under the influence of certain factors of administrative, event and seasonal nature.
