Pace of decline in industrial output in Ukraine down to 5.1%

Taking into account the adjustment for the calendar day effect, industrial output in January decreased by 4.7% in annual terms.

The decline in industrial output in Ukraine in January 2020 decreased to 5.1% on year, that's excluding adjustments for the calendar day effect, after sliding 8.3% in December, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Taking into account the adjustment for the calendar day effect, industrial output in January decreased by 4.7% in annual terms.

Compared with the previous month, industrial output in January fell by 8.4% excluding the adjustments for the calendar day effect and increased by 1.2% with such adjustments noted.

According to the State Statistics Service, the largest decline in annual terms was recorded in the extraction of coal and brown coal (19.2%), production of basic pharmaceutical products (14.7%), supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (10.8%), engineering (10.5%), and metallurgy (10.3%).

Growth in annual terms was recorded in the chemical industry (24.4%), production of computers, electronic and optical products (17.4%), production of electrical equipment (6.9%), textile industry, production of clothing, leather, manufacture of products made of leather and other materials (3.9%), and production of coke and oil products (3.8%).

The State Statistics Service recalled that the data were released without taking into account the occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, industrial output in Ukraine in 2019 dropped 1.8% after an increase of 1.1% in 2018.
