Newly elected Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has outlined the first three steps of the Cabinet of Ministers to revive Ukraine's industry.
"Step one is to get the answers from our industrialists, entrepreneurs, as well as small- and medium-sized businesses as for what they need. This implies about 100 steps that the government and parliament should take so that businesses could feel at 'home,' as well as be able to safely operate, create jobs, and pay taxes. Therefore, the first step is a frank conversation with businesses," he said during a Q&A hour at the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, on March 6.
The second important step is the work on foreign markets to develop the country's export potential.

"Today, Ukraine is almost the only country [in the world] that has not been engaged in lobbying its industrialists and farmers in international markets until now. They were looking for sales for themselves. And we are probably the only ones in the world who have not lobbied our producers, farmers, and industrialists," he said.
The prime minister also plans to create tax incentives for the development of Ukraine's industry.
"The third [step] is the creation of appropriate conditions for businesses in terms of both taxes and employment. These are general phrases, of course, but the third condition stems directly from the first one. We will work to create conditions put forward by industrialists and entrepreneurs," the official added.
As UNIAN reported earlier, industrial output in Ukraine in 2019 dropped by 1.8% after an increase of 1.1% in 2018.
Ukraine saw a decline in its industrial production to 5.1% in January 2020 year-over-year (y-o-y) without calendar adjustment, after a 1.7% decrease in December 2019 y-o-y.
