Ukraine's new PM speaks with IMF mission chief over phone

Shmyhal says the country is set to continue cooperation with the Fund.

Newly-appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has held a phone conversation with the IMF chief representative in Ukraine, Ron van Rooden

Minister of Finance of Ukraine Ihor Umansky and Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Maliuska also took part in the conversation, according to the Cabinet Secretariat's Communications Department.

The parties discussed further steps of bilateral cooperation.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that the Government of Ukraine was ready to continue cooperation with the IMF. The top priority is to launch the IMF's Extended Fund Facility, especially to support structural reforms, macroeconomic and financial stability in the country, the report says.

According to the prime minister, the Government is committed to implementing reforms that are an important prerequisite for economic stability and development.

"The new EFF Program is of utmost importance at this stage of Ukraine's development," reads the statement.

The parties also discussed further priority steps in their cooperation.

The head of government emphasized the importance of comprehensive support IMF had been providing to Ukraine.
