The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has postponed the vote on land reform until the agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on financial assistance are confirmed.

"We say we will vote once the IMF confirms that they will give us money," a source from the Servant of the People faction told the Ekonomichna Pravda online newspaper.

Thus, it is expected that the vote will take place no earlier than April.

It is noted starting today, March 17, the Verkhovna Rada is set to continue considering amendments to land reform.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the new government of Ukraine informed the IMF of its will to continue close cooperation with the Fund and promote reform toward sustainable growth.

On Monday, March 16, President Volodymyr Zelensky invited the Servant of the People parliamentary faction to the President's Office to hold a meeting regarding the opening of the land market.

For the agreement with the International Monetary Fund on a new program of macro-financial assistance for US$5.5 billion, Ukraine has to perform two prior actions: adopt the land market bill and draft law on former owners of bankrupt banks. The government expects this to be completed within one to two weeks.

Also, the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on March 16 instructed the relevant ministry to prepare a letter to the IMF regarding the provision of financial assistance to combat coronavirus.
