The hryvnia became stronger after it had been weakening against U.S. dollar for two weeks in a row, according to the NBU website.

The official forex rate against the euro for Monday is fixed at UAH 29.64 per euro – the hryvnia gained 45 kopiykas in value since Friday.

On Friday, the forex rate of the U.S. dollar set by Kyiv's currency exchange booths remained at UAH 28.50 (like on Wednesday and Thursday), while the forex rate of the euro hit UAH 30.70.

As UNIAN reported earlier, higher demand for foreign currency, seen in Ukraine for the second week in a row, was caused by the deterioration of market sentiment amid the global spread of the novel coronavirus.

The NBU said it would impose no restrictions on Ukraine's forex market and would continue to mitigate excessive fluctuations by selling foreign currency from its reserves.

The central bank's purchases of foreign currency on the interbank forex market on March 16-20 exceeded sales by US$1.038 billion.
