Ukraine's unemployment rate in 4Q 2019 up to 8.7%

The employment rate for citizens aged 15-70 in the 4th quarter of 2019 stood at 57.7%.

The unemployment rate in Ukraine in October-December 2019 increased to 8.7% from 7.3% reported in the third quarter of 2019, which is 1.6 million citizens in absolute numbers, the State Statistics Service reported.

The report says the number of employed citizens aged 15-70 in the fourth quarter of 2019 amounted to 16.5 million.

The employment rate of the population aged 15-70 years stood at 57.7%.

The State Statistics Service noted that the data are given excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol, and part of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the International Labor Organization predicts that the economic and labor crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic could increase global unemployment by almost 25 million.

Based on various scenarios of the coronavirus impact on global GDP growth, ILO estimates indicate an increase in global unemployment from 5.3 million to 24.7 million from a baseline of 188 million in 2019.
