"Maize and wheat are our main raw materials. We have enough of them. However, the prices are growing, in particular, those of maize. This is observed in spring every year, there is nothing extraordinary there. But Ukrspyrt has decided not to increase the price of ethyl alcohol as it's not the time to do this. We are selling [the produce] at the same prices as it was a month, two months, and six months ago," acting Director of Ukrspyrt Serhiy Bleskun said, as reported by the company's press service on March 24.

The capacity of Ukrspyrt's operating distilleries is 26,000 decaliters (260 tonnes) per day now.

"This volume is enough to meet the country's demand for ethyl alcohol nowadays," the press service added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers on March 23 decided to ban ethyl alcohol exports until June 1.

Ukraine's state-run distillery enterprise Ukrspyrt earlier launched four more facilities to meet increased demand for ethyl alcohol amid the spread of the novel COVID-19 coronavirus in the country. In addition, the company announced its readiness to provide Ukrainian hospitals with ethyl alcohol.

Moreover, Ukrspyrt said it was ready to supply raw materials to the Ukrainian alcohol holding Global Spirits, which plans to launch the production of disinfectants and sanitizers amid the spread of the coronavirus.

UNIAN memo. State-owned Ukrspyrt, which was set up on the basis of a consortium with the same name in 2010, holds a monopoly on alcohol production in Ukraine.

The government has already launched its privatization, which is expected to be over by July 1, 2021. As many as 41 distillation facilities belonging to the enterprise are to be put up for sale.
