Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's Parliament, will consider the bill to amend the national budget for 2020 in seven or eight days.

"We want doctors, who are now safeguarding the lives and health of our citizens and often risk their lives and health, to get [allowances] not lower than those of soldiers on the front line. This is important for us, and this requirement will also be spelled out in this [draft] law. I hope it will be voted, or better say, I'm even sure that it will be voted in seven or eight days," he told a Svoboda Slova [Freedom of Speech] panel show on Ukraine's ICTV channel on March 30, as reported by the Ukrainian online newspaper ZN.UA.

The prime minister added that not all Ukrainian lawmakers had the opportunity to learn the document by the parliamentary session held on Monday, March 30.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada on March 30 failed to pass the bill on the amendments proposed by the government to the 2020 national budget, sending the document to the relevant parliamentary committee for revision to be submitted again for the first reading.

The Cabinet of Ministers earlier approved and submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada draft amendments to the 2020 national budget based on an updated macroeconomic forecast with a 3.9% economic decline, inflation acceleration to 8.7% and the average annual forex rate of the hryvnia against the U.S. dollar at UAH 29.50.
