Yatsenyuk unveils targets for Ukraine's gas sector until 2025/ Photo from UNIAN
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk claims that Ukraine should ensure by 2025 that its demand for natural gas is fully met at the expense of locally produced gas.
"We've got a common task with you: in ten years, Ukraine should fully, by 100%, meet its own demand for natural gas with our, Ukrainian-produced gas," he said during the "10 Minutes with the Prime Minister" weekly program broadcast by major TV channels on Sunday.
Earlier, the prime minister called on the G7 governments to help Ukraine achieve final agreements on gas supplies from Russia to Ukraine and Russian gas transit shipments through Ukraine to the European Union.
According to Yatsenyuk, Ukraine and the G7 nations managed last year to reach a tripartite agreement between Ukraine, the EU and Russia on gas supplies to Ukraine and gas transit shipments to the EU.
In May, the premier said that Ukraine planned to reduce the share of Russian gas to not more than 50% of all gas imports "even if the price of Russian gas is lower than that of European gas." In April, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the forecast balance of gas production, purchase and consumption for 2015 with a total consumption amount of 40 billion cubic meters of gas and imports projected at 25 billion cubic meters.
