The latest amendments to the state budget proposed by the government envisage no cuts in defense spending, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address to the nation, published on the President's Office Facebook page.

"Not a single hryvnia pledged for Ukraine's defense will be taken. All Army reforms, procurement of modern weaponry, and the manufacture of defense products will continue," Zelensky said.

According to the president, the Big Construction project also remains a priority.

"It will stimulate the development of the economy and create thousands of new jobs in Ukraine," he added.

Draft amendments also keep in place a number of important expenses, including for the development of regions, support for farmers, cultural fund, Ukrainian film production, and book publishing, as well as support for athletes, teacher training, and the New Ukrainian School reform, Zelensky said.

Also, the head of state emphasized that teachers' salaries are not subject to any reductions, and neither are student scholarships and research expenses.

"Some expenses, unfortunately, are being cut, but only temporarily, and will be surely recovered after the coronavirus is tackled," the president added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Parliament will consider the draft amendments to the 2020 state budget at an extraordinary meeting on April 13.
