Ukraine's chief medical officer Viktor Liashko has revoked the permission for food markets to resume operations amid national quarantine subject to certain conditions.

The move is due to multiple violations of epidemiological regulations and abuse of instructions, Liashko told a panel show on ICTV.

"Effective tomorrow, my decision, which stipulated the conditions for markets' reopening, shall be declared null and void," Liashko said.

Earlier, the ban was recalled so that Ukrainians had access to cheaper food products than offered in grocery chains.

However, a number of violations and abuses were revealed, which forced Liashko to recall the decision.

"Although it was clearly spelled out when it was allowed to open markets, how the management at the markets had to provide both visitors and workers with personal protective equipment, we have mad violations," the official says.
