Demchyshyn ready to continue talks if Russia offers reasonable gas price

Ukraine is ready to continue talks on gas supplies from Russia, in case Russia provides reasonable price offers, as well as a clear formula for the entire 2015 - 2016 heating season, that’s according to the press service of Ukraine’s Energy Ministry.

According to the Volodymyr Demchyshyn, Ukrainian Minister of Energy, "The price calculation formula proposed by Russia is neither reasonable nor economically verified. As of today, we are being categorically offered the price, which is higher than the price of reverse supplies from Europe. We are well aware that the Russian gas should be cheaper on the eastern border as the cost of transit is not taken into account."

The minister stressed that the Ukrainian delegation is open for discussion and looks forward to further discussions with the assistance of the European partners to achieve mutually beneficial solutions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, trilateral talks held in Vienna on June 30 between Ukrainian and Russian energy ministers with the participation of Maros Sevcocic, Vice-President of the European Commission on Energy Union  resulted in Ukraine rejecting conditions offered by Moscow.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced later that day that the final gas price for Ukraine in the third quarter will amount $247.18 per 1,000 cubic meters, including the discount. Thus, the discount will only amount to $39.97 per 1,000 cubic meters, or 13.92%.

Naftogaz of Ukraine suspended gas purchases from the Russian energy monopoly Gazprom starting July 1.
