Farmers are rushing to sell off last year's stocks before vegetables of the new harvest emerge in markets.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prices of vegetables from Ukraine's so-called "borsch set" have significantly slumped over the past week, namely those of potatoes, cabbage, and carrots.

"Potatoes have gone down in price by 14% to UAH 7-UAH 10 [US$0.26-US$0.37] per kilogram," the Ukrainian TSN TV news service reported on April 14.

It is noted that an increase in the supply of imported potatoes, including from Belarus, is the main reason for the drop in prices.

"Carrot prices also tumbled by about 11%. Now 1 kilo of carrots can be bought for UAH 3-UAH 4 [US$0.11-US$0.15]. Prices for cabbage are also pleasing, that is UAH 3-UAH 4. This is 20% cheaper than at the end of last week," the publication said.

Farmers are in a hurry to sell off last year's stocks before cabbage of the new harvest is supplied to markets.
