Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii says public transportation in Ukraine will start operating again after the quarantine restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the novel COVID-19 coronavirus across the country are lifted, but it will not happen before June.

"If we talk about public transportation, I think [it will restart operations] after quarantine restrictions are lifted. But this will not be earlier than June, as in May, we will actually see the highest incidence of the disease. Therefore, we must pass this period," he told TV Channel 24 on April 17.

At the same time, certain restrictions will remain in force, according to the official.

"If, for example, we immediately cancel the requirement to wear face masks, this could cause another wave of cases," he said.

Therefore, municipal transport will be operating in keeping with certain criteria for a defined period.

"But it is realistic that in June-July, we will start to work more actively with regard to public transport," he added.

As UNIAN reported, Kryklii earlier said that regular air services in Ukraine might be resumed in August - September 2020. However, it will take about two years to reach the pre-crisis level of the operations.
