Inflation in Ukraine in June slows to 0.4%

Inflation in Ukraine in June 2015 slowed to 0.4% from May 2015 against 2.2% in May 2015 from April 2015, according to Ukraine's State Statistics Service. The statistical data doesn't include information from the annexed Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, and the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern Ukraine.

Inflation in June 2015 from June 2014 slowed to 57.5% from 58.4% registered in May 2015 from May 2014.

Since the beginning of the year, consumer prices in Ukraine have grown by 40.7%.

The highest increase in June from May was registered in water supply and sewage tariffs (by 7.8% and 7.9% respectively), railway fares (by 5.8%) and transport services (by 2.8%), while prices of eggs grew by 3.6% and those of strong drinks and tobacco by 2.5%.

The highest jump in June 2015 from June 2014 was demonstrated by prices of natural gas (by 4.5 times) and by housing and utilities rates (by 1.5 times).

At the same time, prices of clothes dropped by 2.6% in June from May, fruit and vegetables became cheaper by 2.6% and 2.3% respectively, prices of sugar slid by 2.1%. However, none of the groups of commodities and services demonstrated a decline in June 2015 from June 2014.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine was 2.2% in May 2015 from April 2015, however, it was 58.4% in May 2015 from May 2014. Consumer prices rose by 40.1% January through May 2015.

The Cabinet of Ministers considers three scenarios of economic developments in Ukraine in 2015: the low-case scenario with an 11.9% decline in GDP amid 42.8% inflation, and two base-case scenarios with a GDP decline between 5.5% and 8.6% and inflation between 26.7% and 38.1%.

The National Bank of Ukraine in turn forecasts that GDP may decline by 9.5% in 2015 amid 48% inflation.
