U.S. to help Ukraine develop roadmap to improve investment climate

Ukraine and the United States will work together to develop a roadmap that aims at improving the country's investment attractiveness, with the progress of its implementation to be evaluated in October, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker said at the first U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum in Washington.

"Prime Minister [Arseniy Yatsenyuk] and I committed this morning that we would create a roadmap together of the things that we wanted to accomplish," she said.

According to Pritzker, the implementation of the roadmap and the necessary reforms by Ukraine will be analyzed by the American party in October.

"I will again be returning to Kyiv in October, and then it will be an opportunity during our visit for the Prime Minister [Yatsenyuk] and I to review where we are, to review all of the accomplishments but more importantly for all of you in the room [participants in the forum] to celebrate publicly any progress that has been made. If you read that as a challenge, please do," she said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk called at the U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum on U.S. businesses to take part in large-scale privatization of Ukrainian state-owned enterprises.

The Ukrainian government has already passed a number of resolutions that unblocked the privatization of energy companies, some chemical plants and electricity grid generation companies, the prime minister said.

Yatsenyuk argued that Ukraine needs investors who would be able to bring the best practices of corporate governance and transparent business rules.
