Abromavicius announces U.S. investment in Yuzhny port, nuclear waste utilization

Ukraine's Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius, who participated in the first U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum in Washington, DC, announced U.S. investment to be made in Ukraine soon.

In particular, he said, U.S. Cargill, which has previously announced its plans to build a grain terminal at the port of Yuzhny near Odesa, is ready to boost investment in the port's infrastructure.

"Cargill is increasing their investment in the port of Yuzhny," the minister said.

He also noted that a U.S. company that is "dealing with building facilities for nuclear waste utilization" had also announced an investment in Ukraine based on American technology and financing.

UNIAN's memo. Cargill is one of the world's largest private multinational corporations operating in 68 countries. The company's major businesses are trading, purchasing and distributing grain and other agricultural commodities, such as oil, sugar, cocoa, beef, pork, turkey, etc.

The representative office of Cargill in Ukraine was established in 1993, where the company has been coordinating trade in grain, oil, oil seed crops, fuel and lubricants, metal products, sugar, fruit juice concentrate, and cocoa products.

The sea merchant port of Yuzhny (Odesa region) is the second largest transshipment port in Ukraine, founded in 1978. The port is located on the banks of the Adzhalyk estuary in the north-west coast of the Black Sea. It is the deepest port in Ukraine (the depth of the approach channel is 15.5 meters, the depth at the berths is 14-15.5 meters). The total length of its berths reaches about 2.6 kilometers.
